Paperwork was filed with the Nevada Secretary of State on Monday, November 19 2012 requesting that the Whig Party of Nevada be recognized as a minor political party. Recognition was posted on the SOS website on Tuesday, November 20 2012.

Details will be posted about how to register to vote as a member of the Whigs as soon as they become available.

Please join me in growing the party!

Second Wednesday is coming!

It's time again for our mid-week Meet-and-Greet. We will be meeting once again at the Beat in downtown Las Vegas on Wednesday, September 14 at 7:30PM. The Beat is located at the corner of Fremont and 6th Streets.

You may need quarters for the parking meters depending upon what block you are parked on. Check the back of the meter for its hours of operation!

Hope to see you there!

Thoughts on the fallout from 9/11

There have been events in our history from the very beginning that have helped form our national character. But few, if any, have had such a transformational effect as 9/11 has. That horrible day will forevermore will be held up alongside Pearl Harbor as the definition of infamy. But while Pearl Harbor and prior events have served to strengthen our national identity and dedication to liberty, 9/11 has taken away from that.

For all the outrage and military action following 9/11, the primary response was to give in to fear.

Fourth Saturday Meet and Greet for Las Vegas

It's coming up on Fourth Saturday again and we will have a Meet and Greet for the Las Vegas area.

Like before, it will be held at the Beat Coffeehouse located at the corner of Fremont and 6th Streets at 3PM on Saturday, Aug 27. Bring quarters for the parking meter ($1/hr, coins only.)

Mid-week Meet and Greet Wednesday, August 10th

There is almost no such thing as a weekend for working people in Las Vegas, the schedules are all over the map. That being the case, I am also going to have a regular Meet-and-Greet on the second Wednesday of each month.

The first one will be this Wednesday, August 12th at 7:30PM. Once again, we will be meeting at the Beat in downtown. The Beat is located at the corner of Fremont and 6th Streets.

I hope this fits the schedule better for those of you who couldn't make the Saturday meet.

A Great Reason To Celebrate

We live in the greatest country in the world! Can there be any better reason to celebrate?

Many people around the country will be writing about why our country is so wonderful and what it means to be an American and how much we have to be thankful for. Rather than duplicate all that effort, we will say "Happy Birthday America!" and probably agree with almost all of them.

We pledge to put forth the effort to continue the traditions and beliefs of Whigs in the past such as Henry Clay, Daniel Webster and Abraham Lincoln who have helped make America the great nation it is.

It's time to move forward

The time is ripe for a new party that believes in fiscal responsibility (as opposed to fiscal conservatism) while recognizing that government has the responsibility to provide an infrastructure for society combined with individual responsibility that results in true social justice. This is a party that would present ideas that moderates of both parties could support.

bin Laden is gone, but memories must live on

The Modern Whig Party is eternally grateful for the men and women of our intelligence and military services whose service has led to the strong and fair measure of justice for America with the death of Osama bin Laden.

We remember and honor those who lost their lives on 9-11-01 and those who have sacrificed for our nation since then in defense of freedom against terrorism. Let us never forget them and their loved ones.

This is not the end of terrorism but this is an example that with vigilance and dedication peace will be achieved and freedom will be sustained and uplifted.

Osama Bin Laden is Dead

President Obama has just announced that a U.S. ground team has killed Oasam Bin Laden and are in possesion of the body.

There are many things that can be said, but most of all at this time, we should say thank you to our armed forces and other operatives who have worked so long, and suffered so much, to bring this about.

Response to the State of the State speech

Last night Governor Sandoval gave his first “State of the State” speech and I found it to be quite interesting. The Governor seemed to have a fairly good understanding of the challenges we face and laid out many ideas to face these challenges.
The Governor spoke at length about how we needed to focus on our fiscal short falls and make state government more efficient. While this is encouraging and meets with the Whig ideals of fiscal responsibility, I was concerned with the number of new programs the Governor set forward while he spoke of cutting the budget.
